Sega Ships Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis

In celebration of Sonic's 15th Anniversary, the original Sonic The Hedgehog blasts its way on to the Game Boy Advance.

SEGA of America, Inc. today announced that Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis exclusively on the Game Boy Advance and compatible with the Nintendo DS system, has shipped to retailers nationwide for $19.95 just in time for the holidays. Join millions of fans around the world to celebrate Sonic's 15th anniversary in this special edition of the beloved mascot's 16-bit roots with the game that started it all.

Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis offers gamers seven original gravity-defying stages that have been perfectly ported to the Game Boy Advance. Now players can experience the original Sonic The Hedgehog that broke the speed barrier wide open on the SEGA Genesis console. Navigate through loop-de-loops of Green Hill Zone, zoom past waterfalls, and dash over molten lava at Sonic's trademark super speedy pace while collecting gold rings.

Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis includes a special anniversary mode in which players will be able to use Sonic's Spin Dash ability to get out of dangerous situations. Also, for the first time in the original Sonic The Hedgehog, players will be able to save their progress and high scores throughout the seven stages.

Born on June 23, 1991 as the fastest, most technologically advanced character for the SEGA Genesis console, Sonic The Hedgehog is one of the most popular video game icons of all time. Worldwide, with more than 8,000 Sonic games sold everyday, and over 44 million Sonic games sold to date, The Blue Dude with the 'tude continues to shape the history of video games.
