Asylum Inmates to Remain Locked Down?

Eidos' Batman: Arkham Asylum may be delayed until year-end.

A troubling rumortoid arrives from GI which is essentially throwing doubt over the June 23rd release date of Eidos' Batman: Arkham Asylum. According to the piece, sources have indicated that the highly promising action adventure game could have its general release date pushed back to later in the year; specifically Q4.

The game's official website simply lists a summer timeframe. Today sources close to the game told Game Informer that the release date was being pushed until the fourth quarter of 2009.

When contacted on whether or not the date was moving, neither Eidos Interactive nor Warner Bros. were willing to comment on the possibility of a delay. When asked if the June 23 release date was still valid, a Warner Bros. representative said, "Sorry - no comment."

Without a doubt this title is one of the bigger 2009 releases and Eidos only recently exposed the game to the media for the first time a few weeks ago. Maybe the rumored delay is because Eidos needs to make sure that the game "is close to perfect."

Bryn says: This ain't no joke, man. I was getting all excited when I saw the recent media coverage, and the cool looking Collector's Edition.

Perhaps Eidos and Warner don't want to blow their collective wads too early in the year; those holiday sales figures probably look very tempting. 'Specially now Eidos has to find a lot of money to give Square Enix Holdings.
